Workshop Session Leaders
WORKSHOPS
As part of our provision, we offer online Intensive sessions that give our first-year postgraduate researchers (PgRs), PhD and MRes (pending) access to current thinking and practice in creative, transdisciplinary research.
We are inviting proposals for conceptually topical workshops, which may include your praxis, research and/or others’, but will also address issues across the following broad areas:
As an indication of the specific aspects of postgraduate research that we need to address, we would like you to consider the following, covering at least three of the following areas in your proposed workshop (keywords in bold):
Histories of Practice and Current Conversations: understanding the research context of your project.
Postgraduate research as a social process: evaluating dependencies and responsibilities, and relationships with faculty, peers, and community.
Research ethics protocols in the context of creative praxis and transdisciplinary research.
Research Validity: Who cares, and who is motivated by your research contribution?
Transdisciplinarity: collaboration and transformation across disciplinary boundaries; Travelling concepts, travelling methods.
Working backwards: Planning your project towards the viva voce examination.
Approaching the research degree process through/as creative practice: finding the "shape" of a thesis, and negotiating its examination.
Career diagnostics and the development of the researcher as a 'whole person'.
Creative approaches to Literature Review and understanding the 'state of the art' within your fields.
Methodological choices, and turns within and beyond the academy;
Creative methods and the craft of research.
The role of documentation within creative research.
Writing for/as creative research.
Process: We will invite you to submit a brief proposal, followed by a syllabus that may include up to 50 pages of required reading, in addition to suggested reading. You may include pre-assignments and other resources for review, such as films and websites. Your syllabus will be password-protected and only available to our PgRs.The last step of the process will be a profile form for our People page.
Dates: These three-hour workshop sessions take place annually on the second Saturday of each trimester: September, October, November, January, February, March, May, June, and July. We aim for a time of day that accommodates everyone's time zones. Typically, this means starting at 13:00 or 15:00 UTC.
Session: Your online session will be moderated by Transart, so you can focus exclusively on leading it. Your session will be recorded and password-protected so that our neurodiverse PgRs and those with extreme time differences can access it.
In all workshops and seminars, PgRs apply their own research to the assignments, exercises and projects you give them. In this way, over the first three trimesters, they progressively introduce workshop concepts into their proposals and research, finding inspiration and inventive ways to articulate and disseminate their research through your research praxis.
Post-session: You will be prompted to submit a check-in form to share your impressions of the sessions, gather suggestions for the future, and collect payment information.
Guests: TT welcomes collaboration, so it's fine to invite a guest or to share your role as a session leader with a colleague; please indicate this on your syllabus form. Please include details in the course proposal form, such as the guest's contact email and how and when you envision their participation in your session.
Fee: Workshop fees are 150 USD per hour. You will invoice 450 USD for a three-hour workshop plus 50 USD for prep for a total of 500 USD. Guest fees are 50 USD per hour.
