PHD

ACCELERATE YOUR CREATIVE RESEARCH

Are you a creative practitioner with a desire to synthesise your praxis as research, and to make a significant contribution across disciplines and sectors?

Our PhD programme is designed to enable you to reach your full potential as a creative researcher. You'll embark on a substantial transdisciplinary creative research project that makes a significant contribution across disciplines and sectors. You'll develop innovative methodological approaches, synthesise your project's researched and creative contexts, and refine your practical expertise in research methods, project design, and research ethics protocols.

Our programme fosters a supportive, collaborative environment that encourages peer-to-peer learning and growth for both postgraduate researchers and faculty alike. Drawing on our extensive international network, you'll be supported by two TT Advisors. As experts in their field, they'll accompany you as a 'critical friend' on your doctoral journey. Your journey is supported and enriched by monthly advisor and peer research group meetings, guest faculty-led group Intensive sessions, and optional opportunities to meet in person at our series of Nexus Events.

The PhD programme culminates in a creative doctoral thesis that demonstrates your methodological and epistemological originality and transdisciplinary agility, establishing you as an expert and innovator in your chosen fields. Receive the recognition and credentials to accelerate and enhance your praxis and career.

PHD BY PUBLICATION/PORTFOLIO

ACCELERATE YOUR CAREER

Are you a mid- or late-career creative practitioner with a significant track-record of published or public-facing work who has missed-out on the opportunity of undertaking a PhD, but who has nonetheless made an exceptional contribution to your field to the highest standards and is seeking a doctoral degree?

In very exceptional circumstances we can offer an accelerated PhD by Publication/Portfolio route, tailored for mid- and late-career researchers seeking to fast-track their academic careers. You'll synthesise your existing portfolio of peer-reviewed publications, public-facing projects, or exhibitions into a cohesive doctoral thesis. Our expert faculty will guide you to your core questions through advanced creative researcher development, online seminars and transdisciplinary workshops.

UPCOMING PROGRAMMES

Later this year, we are also launching a new MRes in Creative Praxis (pending validation). Contact admissions@tt-edu.eu for more information.

MODES OF STUDY

With our HyFlex (Hybrid Flexible), visa-free model, all programmes are undertaken online, including meetings with advisors, taking part in workshops and talks, and thesis assessment. Optionally enjoy the enormous benefits of meeting in person at one or all of our Nexus Events. We strongly believe in the mobility of people and ideas and that research is a process of becoming social. In other words, the social relationships of your postgraduate research matter. Nexus Events take place in locations such as London, Venice, Toronto, and Berlin in the form of symposia, workshops, and site visits. They enable collaborations with like-minded creative institutes and initiatives that bring together international faculty, postgraduate researchers, and guests. Exchange ideas, gain insights and perspectives, and reflect on your own research.

PRIMARY ACCELERATED.

Our programmes are designed specifically to enable you to complete your studies on time, without compromising the exploration and experimentation that are vital to creative research. Our academic year is structured around three trimesters of equal length, each consisting of three months of intense study – supported by your advisors, workshops, talks, and presentations – with the final Deep Focus months solely dedicated to self-directed work.

We strongly believe that by engaging your creative practice with the postgraduate research degree process in a positive and generative way, both can be transformed and flourish. Our advisors are there to help you understand this process and to develop and sustain a project towards its successful and timely completion.

ALTERNATIVE EXTENDED.

We understand that not everyone can commit to an accelerated mode of study, with work or caring responsibilities being an important part of their lives. We also offer an extended mode with an additional year for our PhD, enabling you to take more time to complete your creative research project and to find the right balance between your research degree and your other responsibilities.

OUR APPROACH

Our co-learning Ethos.

Transart leads by example. Our pedagogy models the practices of our transdisciplinary creatives, postgraduate researchers and faculty alike.

We want you to be honoured and nurtured during your tenure as a postgraduate researcher by respecting your current practice and your academic history. Further, we develop our faculty, going so far as to reject the term 'supervisor' and the culture of auditing and reporting that grips academic life. We keep the flame of academic freedom, curiosity and enthusiasm alive by providing our faculty with flexible conditions and an array of opportunities to support our postgraduate researchers as their research journeys unfold. At Transart Institute, we promote co-learning, recognise that skills and expertise take diverse forms, and support research-based learning, in which students actively construct knowledge through creative research. We work within a flat hierarchy. Every member of our institution is a colleague. We gather to mutually support, enjoy and enrich our creative research praxes.

AWARDS.
