TT 4.0 Overview
In its newest version, TT 4.0, our institute operates in a HyFlex mode. PgRs have the option to study entirely online or additionally participate in international Nexus Events (formerly known as residencies).
At Transart, research remains transdisciplinary at all levels, unifying hybrid knowledge and methods that don't fit within a single disciplinary domain or cross-pollinate between fields of knowledge, practices, disciplines, and genres. This is reflected in the praxes of our researchers, PgRs and faculty alike. It also applies to how we conduct our programming, including workshops, seminars and researcher development.
CALENDAR
Our sessions are broken into trimesters, each four months long. The fourth month is a Deep Focus month during which the institute is closed, allowing PgRs and staff to focus on their own research. No meetings are held, nor emails exchanged. You can find the academic calendar in the top menu bar.
intensive sessions
We offer monthly weekend intensive sessions on the second Saturday of every month, except April, August, and December. We tag our sessions to indicate all foundation-related areas a course will include, as well as constellation and topical keywords. These sessions are intended to enrich our students' research and praxis by exposing them to new concepts, practices, methods, and fields of research beyond their areas of expertise. Often, collaborations and research groups develop from these sessions. All incoming researchers participate in the nine monthly intensive workshops.
Integrated RESEARCHer Development
We tackle research development in context, referencing key researcher development areas by example rather than directly. PgRs learn to identify and articulate them in their own research and praxes through your research and the references to other research you share.
OPEN WINDOW TALK SEries
We organize a series of nine monthly talks on the second Sunday of every month, except April, August, and December. These talks are open to the public and offer a window into our programming for the public and alumni. They also serve as case studies for our PgRs. Our researchers attend them throughout their studies. They are followed by PgR research group cluster meetings, which may be topical, supportive, or class-based.
Nexus Events
We host three Nexus Events per year during the last week of the first month of each trimester, each lasting approximately one week. They will have general themes: September: Symposium; January: Writing, Editing & Vocal Articulation; and May: Collaboration.
Communication
We will continue with our Faculty Digests, but only at the start of each trimester to share what is in store. Additional dispatches, reminders, news, and announcements will reach you via Signal, a secure messaging and calling app that replaces WhatsApp. TT will work with open source solutions wherever possible. Mailbox, a Berlin cloud platform with encrypted email, a calendar, video conferencing, and office tools on servers governed by strict German privacy laws. It is a hosted, closed-source service that utilises Open-Xchange and other open-source backend components. Our social media channels will serve as a platform for public announcements only, and our site will be the primary source for Transart News.
