Julia Wieger
Julia Wieger works as an artist, researcher, and teacher. Her work is concerned with history writing, archives, collective approaches to knowledge production, and spatial practices – through feminist and decolonizing lenses. She is part of the art-duo Secretariat for Ghosts, Archival Politics and Gaps (SKGAL) and the Archive Group of VBKÖ – a more than 100-year-old organization of women* artists in Vienna. She is a PhD student in Artistic Practice at HDK-Valand in Gothenburg and the Nuova Accademia di Belle Arti (NABA) in Milan.
Recent research and exhibition projects include “Widerspenstig durch die Nacht” (Wayward Through the Night, 2026) and “Drinnen und Draußen Sorgen tragen” (Taking Care, Inside and Outside, 2024), both with SKGAL at FLUCC Vienna, and “mit der au” (with the floodplain, 2025) as part of the collectively organized exhibition project building < against. rebellious materials, resistant building, future worlds at Kunsthalle Exnergasse, Vienna. In 2019, SKGAL co-curated the show DARK ENERGY. FEMINIST ORGANIZING, WORKING COLLECTIVELY, at xhibit / Academy of Fine Arts Vienna. SKGAL’s film HAUNTINGS IN THE ARCHIVE! (2017) was shown internationally at film festivals and art institutions and won the WOMEN'S VOICE NOW BEST DOCUMENTARY FEATURE AWARD (2018).
