PROGRAM DURATION
32-36 MONTHS
UP TO 1-YEAR LEAVE OF ABSENCE (LOA)
4TH YEAR FOR COMPLETION (OPTIONAL)
MAXIMUM ENROLLMENT: 4 YEARS
LEAVE OF ABSENCE
Through the duration of the PhD, you are permitted to take a Leave of Absence (LOA) for up to one year in total. A Leave of Absence can be as short as one month, and should be undertaken in consultation with your supervisory team and TT Director.
STEPS TO INITIATE LOA:
Consult with your supervisory team and TT Director to determine a plan for your paused study.
Communicate with Tuition Manager to determine a tuition payment schedule during your LOA. You may pause or continue making tuition payments during your LOA.
Submit Transart Institute’s Leave of Absence Request Form, indicating your intended return to study date.
Submit appropriate LOA request in LJMU’s eDoc system.
You can initiate the process from your project page https://edoc.ljmu.ac.uk/8919v/doctoral-research-project, via the ‘request a change’ option on the right hand side of her project page.
Once you’ve completed this process on eDoc, your request will to LJMU’s Faculty Research Degrees Committee (FRDC) for approval.
STEPS TO END LOA:
Communicate with Tuition Manager to resume tuition payments, if paused.
Complete a ‘return to study’ on eDoc, (via the ‘request a change’ option on eDoc).
Resume meetings with your supervisory team.
Catch up on monthly Digests you may have missed to make sure you’re up to date with any program and/or policy changes.
Register for upcoming monthly Intensive sessions/residencies and return to independent research.
PARTICIPATION DURING LOA:
During a LOA, students are welcome to continue independent research and writing, as well as participate in Open Window Public Talk sessions, Research Clusters, and the PhD Collegium process. Additionally, if in good standing with tuition payments, students may attend residencies and Intensive sessions with registration and by permission of TT Director.
During a LOA, students may not meet with their supervisory team or submit degree milestones.
