RC Research Development Portfolio

At Transart Institute, we believe that research is a process of 'becoming social.' At every step of the way, we encourage our postgraduate researchers to establish and sustain relationships with their peers, and to take part in developing the discourse within their fields of creative research.

For our new programmes, we have partnered with the Society of Artistic Research (SAR). We will use their Research Catalogue (RC) as a dedicated portal platform to share, publish and archive our researchers' work.

Our postgraduate researchers will use the RC for their Researcher Development Portfolio, maintained throughout their project, and as part of their Thesis submission. The RC provides a permanent archive of PhD theses, a DOI reference and a pathway to publishing in the Journal of Artistic Research (JAR). We will utilise the Research Catalogue (RC) of the Society of Artistic Research (SAR) as your PgR Research Portfolio platform, which will act as the locus of your thesis progression and a shared repository of your doctoral research project from start to finish.

The RC employs a unique format: a free-form, flexible, and media-friendly webpage called an exposition, well-suited for merging different forms of media and text into a single, highly adaptable presentation for the diverse, context-specific needs of organising projects produced in artistic research. At the end of any project, RC users can self-publish (= freeze) their work or publish it. When published (as opposed to just being public), each exposition is registered with a DOI.

To apply, register for a free RC account and create an online exposition (portfolio) before your TT registration. Once accepted and you've registered with Transart and Woolf, your user account is moved into the Transart portal, and you will invite your peers and advisors to connect with it using the Transart annual universal password. You may request additional metadata as needed.

By creating your own profile (on the RC), it does not belong to an institution. On the RC, researchers can be affiliated or change their affiliation; their research can be published in different contexts or be connected to different portals - or none.

Progression

Begin by uploading your latest thesis proposal draft. At the end of each year, you submit the final version of your project exposition or research portfolio, including the required proposal and draft milestones, for future reference. Once reviewed and approved, you will freeze it to create an uneditable snapshot. Over time, your trajectory between application and achievement will become increasingly apparent. The final-year exposition will serve as your thesis submission for examination and, once approved, will be archived.

Through the RC or feeds you set up, you can integrate public parts of this into your website or create a searchable interface for Transart doctoral projects, etc.

The Research Portfolio, with monthly updates, is an academic requirement. Your advisors will sign off on your progress each trimester. This process eliminates conventional, time-consuming monitoring, checks, reports, and interim exams in favour of a useful vehicle for your progression, a supportive process, and an efficient means of documenting, archiving, sharing, and reflection.

Thesis submission

Your final thesis exposition and the prior two milestones’ research portfolios will form the basis for your thesis exam, viva voce, and final submission to the RC Transart portal thesis archive.
