Jeca Rodriguez-Colon
Jeca Rodríguez-Colón, is a Puerto Rican artist-philosopher residing in NYC. She holds a B.A. from Hunter College with a double major in Dance, and Latin American and Caribbean Studies, she was the recipient of the Hunter College 2005 Choreography Departmental Award. She obtained her MFA in Creative Practices with a focus on research from Transart Institute. She is a doctor in Philosophy, Aesthetics and Art Theory, Rodríguez-Colón completed her doctoral studies at the Institute for Doctoral Studies in the Visual Arts. She is an Alumni of the EmergeNYC, the EmergeLab and a former Adam Smith Fellow.
Her artistic practice ranges from dance and performance arts to video art, object manipulation and installations; recently focusing on photography manipulation. Her work is connected to diverse aspects of the kinesthetic language and the politics that surround it while questioning its representations across multiple artistic forms and focusing on the maternal subject.
Rodríguez Colón’s scholarly work focuses on economics, representation, politics, aesthetics, and performances, this led to her first book publication "Displacement of (M)others in Twenty-First Century U.S. Films: Impact on Maternal Identities of ‘Other’ Subjectivities." For the past decade her work also focuses on death studies, particularly, queering death in different cultures.
