KATARINA MARKOVIC: DECISION-MAKING AND GENDER DYNAMICS IN PROCESSES OF COLLABORATIVE THEATRE-MAKING

This contribution focuses on decision-making as a relational and situated process within collaborative theatre-making. Rather than assuming collaboration as inherently equal, I approach it as a space where roles, authority, and participation are continuously negotiated.

Within the framework of “Becoming Social,” I propose a participatory session that invites attendees to engage with decision-making as an embodied and collective practice. The session will consist of simple performative tasks in which participants collaboratively shape material while navigating moments of choice, disagreement, and negotiation.

Through this shared process, attention will be directed toward how decisions emerge: who initiates, who follows, how authority shifts, and how implicit dynamics—such as gendered behaviors, timing, or confidence—affect participation. The aim is not to reach a final outcome, but to make visible the often-unnoticed structures that guide collaborative work.

The session will be accompanied by moments of reflection, allowing participants to connect their experience to their own research contexts. By opening up my practice in this way, I seek to create a space for collective inquiry into how social relations actively shape both artistic processes and doctoral research.
