Ooze: Sound as Fluid Architecture
Ooze presents sound as fluid architecture—an unstable system where vibrations shape space, and space shapes perception. Spoken word, vocals, bass, percussion, and multiple instruments dissolve into the black box theater, creating a porous and resonant environment.
Water is both a medium and a metaphor. It erodes boundaries, carries memory, and adapts to its container. Multichannel audio acts as hydraulic pressure: frequencies seep through walls, words refract, and low tones pool in corners. The body becomes a sensor, feeling sound as much as hearing it.
This 40-minute activation extends Ooze’s original exploration of water, affective perception, and sound, now framed by the Triennial’s theme Beyond the Artifact: Do we call it architecture or a system of contingencies? Here, sound emerges as the liquid counterpart to architecture—formless yet formative, shaping collective experience through listening.
Flavia Bertorello, Argentinian-born, NYC-based artist, architect, and researcher exploring body–environment relations through a practice that includes drawing, writing, and experimenting with materials across various formats, scales, and spatial contexts. Her work is rooted in site-responsive processes and exists at the intersection of drawing, sculpture, printed media, sound, installation and restoration.
