Saturday, October 3 at 1pm
City of Forest Day
6/15 Green Community Garden, 6th Ave & 15th St, Brooklyn

As part of ART-ROOTED, curated by Alyssa Fridgen, from 11am–5pm, with workshops, performances, and art throughout the day.

We will gather under the willow tree.

dendro-chrono-apoloy asks a question:

What might the tree rings reveal—and not reveal?

And perhaps another question sits underneath it: What if we begin with what is already here and living?

The ways we define, design, and manage urban parks are not timeless. In New York, many of the systems of modern park management grew alongside the creation of Central Park in the nineteenth century. Perhaps it is time to rewrite these inherited policies and protocols—to make decisions with the urban ecology that is already here, rather than remove what is living and begin again.

What responsibility do the City and all of us have in this? And can an apology for what has been destroyed become a commitment to doing things differently?
