LJMU PgR: Ethics Approval

ETHICAL APPROVAL

In your first year of study, you may have to apply for Ethical Approval with LJMU’s University Research Ethics Committee (UREC), depending on your project. For more about the process, read the LJMU Ethics Guide.

As of July 2024, new forms and processes have been released by UREC. Information about the updated UREC ethical review process is available here - Submitting an ethics application to UREC.aspx – and is summarised below, via LJMU:

  1. TRAINING. PGR students must complete the LJMU Research Ethics Training

  2. ETHICS APPLICATION. Complete the UREC ethics application form and supporting documents.

  3. DECISION TOOL. Decide whether the project is associated with minimal risks or requires expedited/routine ethical review by UREC - by submitting the LJMU Research Ethics and Governance Decision Tool.

  4. SUBMISSION. Once staff PIs or supervisors of PGR students are satisfied that the UREC ethics application form and supporting documents have been finalised, email them as ONE PDF DOCUMENT for either routine UREC review, expedited UREC review or minimal risk registration - as directed by the LJMU Research Ethics and Governance Decision Tool.
